What's Present Now | Simple Practice | News + Offerings

Greetings Reader How are you?

December often finds me in reflecting mode, scanning over the past 11 months, trying to see where the time went. I’m always amazed by how quickly we arrive here.

As I reflect on the twists and turns of this year, I’m also spending time in gratitude. I’m particularly grateful to be completing my training in Tantric Meditation Level 1 with Tracee Stanley. Learning this system and philosophy has been game-changing. A wonderful new level of practice and experience that I simply can’t wait to share with you all.

While there are specific techniques and methodologies to learn, the most profound reminder of this training was this: spirit is always present. Practicing meditation gives us a clear and simple way to connect with spirit. Through our breath, we get access to a deeper, inner knowing of ourselves.

We simply need to open up and tune in.

But, how exactly do we do that?

We begin with awareness.

I like to think of meditation as a “workout” for the mind. A practice to help build mental strength and health for the long-haul. Deepening our awareness is like doing core work. It supports the foundation and improves our capacity to do more "advanced" techniques and practices, over time.

The good news is that this "core work" is actually simple. By brining your attention into the present moment and practicing to notice, your awareness sharpens. Choosing to play the observer role makes it fun and intriguing.

As you go through this month, with the typical hustle and busyness of the season, catch yourself becoming the observer. Try to take a pause before reacting or responding and notice your default thoughts or habitual reactions. What typically triggers you? What lights you up? Use the simple practice below as a primer to start.

This I Know: Spirit is always present, always available and ready when we are. Though we can easily become disconnected, meditation gives us a clear path back to our true selves.

Shanti 🙏🏽 Peace

Simple Practice

Become your own observer. As you go about your day, choose to silently pause before responding or reacting to anything in your experience. Simply notice your state. What are you thinking, feeling, sensing, seeing? Just observe and avoid judging what you notice. It is helpful to try naming your observations to yourself. For instance: "I feel annoyed"; "This sound is quiet"; My heart is racing". As the day ends, see if you can notice any patterns in your observations. Let go of judgment and just be with what is.
